  1. My very first reaction to this article was WOW, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! This author makes it seem like Mexican Americans are such outcast, but that's not even close! Living in San Diego alone already lets me know for a FACT that most of our population is made up of Mexican Americans. This author makes it seem so bad to be Mexican. Almost like these people are asking for sympathy. Over all, this article is very biases. This article also has a lot of connections with other articles that I have read in class. This points to the racial profiling in Illinois but sort of opposes it. One talks about how Mexican Americans are victimize for doing bad deeds and the other one talks about how Mexican Americans are always pointed at somewhere in time. What they have both in common is that they both talk about how these people are mistreated because of their ethnicity.

  2. As I read this article, I was disgusted by the discrimination there is with Mexicans. In my opinion everyone is equal even if they are or are not Mexican.I believe that everyone should get the same rights that white people do. Mexicans are being judged just because they don’t have any papers, and others also judge Mexicans because of their culture, language, etc. I don’t think it is right for others to be judging Mexicans or any race because of how they look or any other reason. Everyone’s equal, and it upsets me that many people don’t see that.
I remember reading an article on Age discrimination in the United States. It was not in this class, but it was in an english class in the past. Many adults in the U.S. think that a 16 year old walks into stores to just steal. Adults judge teens by their age. For example, if a 13-17 year old walks in to a fancy store, the people around him begin to judge and think that the only reason they walked in was to steal or do some kind of crime. I also think that this is unfair because us teens are not always into bad things. Adults believe that we are immature and we just like to play around. My opinion comes to believing that we teenagers are not all immature, they are many teens who are mature enough to not be treated the way adults treat them. Everyone’s equal, no matter what age they are, and no matter what race they are as well.

  3. i think that it is wrong for the comunity to look at mexican for what they did wrong .for them to use the illegal immagrant as an excuse to socially attack them. I think we need to look at how they contributethere culture to our society.in our soceity we have a large pesentage of mexican american. to make them feel like an out cast is wrong.they said around 300,000 mexican fight for the us .mexican students were force to develop their own school to house the mexican youth. This is horrible that they connected this discrimination to the nazis.

  4. After reading this article I was amazed that the author actually talked about it.He basically says that mexican's are outcast's in america.Seeing that most of our population are mexicans how can we accuse them for this kind of stuff.I think that we cant just judge them just because they are diffrent or whatnot we are all the same and they should be treated equally.I may not know what it feels like to be accused but i have friends who go through this kind of stuff but they deal with it because they like being here today in america.MY opinion is that everyone is equal no matter how you see the problem and what race he/she is.

  5. The way I felt was that the author is over looking the way Mexicans are being hated or discriminated. I think the author is saying that no one likes Mexicans, which I feel is not true.In a way I think that everyone is hated by at least one person so it's not just one race. The human race could solve this by learning to get along with others even though ther are diffrent. Over all I guess I diagree with the way the auther was thinking that Mexicans are hated when in other places other races are just as hated same way he talked about Mexicans in his article.

  6. As I read this article, the author only reflects the reality of our society. The discrimination held againts Mexican Americans is still an issue that has not been modified since decades. This author believes that people from the country of Mexico deserve to be treated with racism because of their illegal status. He minimizes the issue by expressing that such acts of discrimination were only held in the past but to my experience this racial discrimination is still generalizing Mexican American as a disease for the american society. One example is the separation of residential areas, everyone deserves the right to live in a good area but it seems that only rich people have the right to enjoy such privilige. One can never sink one ethnic group into a bad statement, many of the people that are here in america actually take more responsibility and even work harder than a U.S citizen

  7. I Ca Not Believe! while I was reading this article it make me feel Sad. To see how much descrimination is against the Mexicans. It also make me feel up set because I am Mexican to.But the coments will not make me feel not proud to be a mexican. I am mexican and I feel proud it.while I was reading the article I ask my self a question why society almost always look the bad thing and not the good things?Mexican are descriminated just because they do not have papres.Even that they play a big role in today U.S.A society. One of the articles that I rember reading last year was three quartes of Mexican American which also talk about how the Mexicas were descriminated in New York.Another article that I just read yestearday is called Ap claims Discrimination Against Mexicans in Illions offers no proof which also talks about how badly the Mexicans are descriminated and the things they are suffering. There alot of articles that I have read realeted to the same theme.Which make me feel that I need to do something today to fight against the contemporary slavery in our society

  8. In the article, “Mexican American Discrimination” , the author is informing the world about how discrimination is mostly common in Mexicans. Based on the first sentence of the article, it lets one know that the discrimination has been going on for a long time and it is not something new. An example of this is in WW2, which is talked about in the third paragraph, the Mexican Americans were denied medical attention just because of their ethnicity. Today, this problem has kept on going on and is a part of almost all schools.
I can compare this article to yesterday’s article because they both are talking about the discrimination of Mexicans. I think that the reason for this bad relationship towards Mexicans is because citizens are scared that they will loose their jobs because of the immigrants. Truth is that immigrants work harder than citizens do.

  9. My first thought was, "is it really that bad to be a mexican". They make it seem like every mexican is a killer or a thief or something. So if one mexican does a bad choice than every mexican does the same thing. There is too much discrimination against mexicans. People always find the bad things out of mexicans but really there is good things. They should get to know people not only one or hear about them before they start to say stuff. This issue has still been ans issue now and it will always be an issue, there will always be one out of ten people that have to say something negative about mexicans americans. This article is alomost the same as AP Claims Discrimination Against Mexicans in Illinois, Offers NO Proof because it talks about mexicans but the author or the writer has no proof of any of what had wrote. Everyone deserves a chance anywhere, not only rich people can live in the rich houses, but so can mexicans and anyone else. Everyone should be equal because we are all the same and there shouldn't be anyone discriminating others. This is not only affecting me but many other people that care for mexicans. THIS IS UNFAIR!!!

  10. Base on the article, it states that Mexican Americans have been discriminated against for years now. Honestly, The piece points out that they are the main victims who have been discriminated on. However, they are not the only race that has been discriminated against. I agree with thee article because when it comes to Mexican-Americans, they are the majority who are in most states and therefore they receive racism. Colored people in general are discriminated against yet the article doesn't indicate it. The author mostly focuses on them. Living in San Diego, I have experience racism taking place on Mexicans because of their race, language, and their migration to the city.

  11. Wow…well, I have to admit I wasn’t aware that Mexican American discrimination dated back as far as the depression. I thought that it was more of a contemporary thing. Looking back at the depression I guess it made sense that they would deport around 500,000 Mexican Americans; things were going bad and it made it easier to blame other people. What do you do with a problem? You get rid of it; take a look at the Holocaust as an example. Many of these different acts of discrimination generally surprised me. The one that acted more as a “jaw dropper” for me was how Mexican Americans were rightfully outlawed from being jurors ESPECIALLY if the case was against another Mexican. Come on, really!? It makes absolutely NO sense, whoever concocted that lawful proposal was lawfully, pardon my French, retarded. This discrimination act strongly reminds me of the movie A Time To Kill in the way that the white deep south lawyers did everything in their power to keep African Americans off the jury to “properly” handle a case that was notably racist. In a way this article could be used as a counter argument for the article that was putting down AP magazine. With such a tainted history of discrimination and racism, who wouldn’t feel intimidated?

  12. I feel that the treatment towards not only Mexican Americans but to numerous races including African Americans is very dehumanizing.Throughout history, there have been laws created, discrimination ,and even murders due to hatred of others towards these different races. This just shows the discrimination that Mexican Americans face.
This article reminds me of another article I have recently read.It talked about the immigrants of the Waukegan suburb in Chicago, Illinois. The immigrant community of this suburb feel unwelcome and pressured to leave. Both these articles are similar to showing the problems that groups of people have towards Mexicans.I feel that this shows that discrimination is still present in America today even after numerous decades.

  13. As i read this article i was amazed on how this author talks about Mexican-Americans,but then i realized that this injustice is true and it doesnt only happen to Mexican-Americans,but also African- Americans,Native-Americans and many other races. The united states builds laws and rules that in a way discriminates all the races.
For example when people see an illegal immigrants they start making jokes, like they will start screaming "La Migra" thinking that is funny when peoples lives out there have been ruined by the border patrol.
In my opinion this article goes a litte overboard on Mexican-Americans me myself being one,but if u really think about it theres a lot of discrimination going on under the radar not only with Mexican-americans but wit many races.

  14. Well I was obviously not too shocked with the author’s article since I have known that discrimination against Mexican Americans has been of existence. But I did not know of how extreme the situation has become. I was not even aware that there is a group called The Ku Klux Klan who voices opinions of negativity against Mexican Americans. I felt like the author was exaggerating a little but I guess that is how serious this has become. Even though the author speaks only for the Mexican Americans I believe that not only the Mexican race suffers but other races as well and the enforcements do not care for them, and no matter what positive thing they did for this country they will still be put down and not supported. Action needs to be taken in order for there not to expand hate amongst races but that is a really challenging effort and it would take a lot for this to be achieved.
This article reminds me of the article we just read, where the immigrants of Waukegan in Chicago Illinois are treated like they are terrible outsiders and do not belong with the society. Both articles are similar since they both make me ask myself “aren’t we all humans?” each race is treated differently and in the case of Mexicans it seems like it is a shameful thing to be. We should all just be in peace! I don’t get how we should be categorized because that is not a way to be judged.

  15. After reading this I was shocked. I haven’t seen any of this discrimination happening around our community, which is made up mostly of Mexican Americans. When I think back to the 1800’s I only think of the racism going on towards African Americans. I would have never thought Mexican Americans were discriminated too. What really appalled me was how the media “sparked the fire of hatred towards Mexicans” in the 1940’s.
This piece is pretty similar to the article about Illinois. The only difference is the author of the Illinois was going back and forth on the racial profiling. On the other hand this article only shows all the discrimination against the Mexican Americans. Either way you look at it Mexican Americans were and still are being discriminated against.

  16. After reading these article I think about my parents. I remember when my mom got illegally to the States and how she work really hard to get money, but when she need her social number they take her out from her work and they didn’t pay her anything. I remember how she was crying, and I think its not fair for anyone to be treated like that. Is like a type of slavery. Im Mexican, and I know how these people feel when they are treated that way, because my own family has lived that situation. We are hardworking people that deserve respect.

  17. In his article, Mexican American Discrimination, he state that Mexican American are illegal, disloyal foreigners. He explains how America discriminates Mexican American in our society. For example, it talks about Mexican Americans fighting for our country and not receiving healthcare because of their race. This is an awful thing because while they are risking their life and having to comeback with a serious injure, they realize that they are not going receiving any treatment at all. He also describes how the press and media have be hatred to the Mexican American race.
This author is outrageous discriminates the Mexican American race. He describes them as disloyal foreigners that have tainted their race. I truly believe this man wrong because during the past years Mexican American have made a big difference in our society

  18. Discrimination towards other races in America has been around and is still present to this day. In this article is specifically describes the discrimination towards Mexican- Americans. I believe that the negativity that they receive is very hostile. The article says that they’re “disloyal foreigners, murderers and Zoot suiters” (3). This discrimination has been an ongoing cycle for a century. I also believe that this discrimination is not only demonstrated towards Mexican- Americans, but other ethnicities, as well.
In a current events session in Mr. Robinson’s class, there was an article discussed about discrimination towards the Muslim community in America. The reasons these two articles connect and they’re both being discriminated within the U.S. is that Mexicans are portrayed as “illegal immigrants” and Muslims as “terrorists”.

  19. As I read this article, I felt a queasy feeling in my stomach. As a mixed Latin female, I have never experienced such brutal abuse, nor have I witness any in person. One of the new things I have learned was that the Ku Klux Klan lynched Mexican as well when I believed they persecuted only African Americans. The reason is I followed it like that is some Latin/Hispanic people have certain physical appearances equal to white people. My skin is almost pale, so I would probably be able to evade a mob of KKK members! However, I have indeed felt shunned by rich white schools on behalf of being Latin. Whenever I go to Music Festivals to compete with other Advanced Bands, I can feel their heavy glances from afar. Luckily, Herbert Hoover High School brought back the wining trophy!

  20. In this article “Mexican American Discrimination” speaks on Mexican being look down upon by the Ku Klux Klan, newspapers, and even by schools. Mexican Americans were lynched by the Ku Klux Klan from 1848-1928. “One of the main reasons that have led to the discrimination against Mexicans is their illegal migration”. I feel this is not fair and a selfish reason for Mexicans to be tormented. They were treated as aliens because they weren’t born in the U.S., forgetting that that they were yet human. A massive number of Mexican Americans was deported back to Mexico. During the 1940 there was many violent acts among Mexicans in L.A. Newspaper wrote many bad things toward them, which caused a lot of tension.

  22. After reading this article, I didn't realize that Mexican discrimination was so far back. When the article mentioned the Ku Klux Klan, I automatically thought about when slavery had just ended. Living in San Diego makes me agree with the article when it states, "One of the main reasons that have led to the discrimination against Mexicans is their illegal migration." Generally speaking, whenever the press speaks about illegal migration, they usually talk about Mexican Americans. However, I don't think it's right to discriminate them because they came to the U.S. illegally. If the press/government thought about it, then they would know that they came to live a better life. I just think that the author needs to stop being biased.

  23. After reading the article, I found myself astonished of what I had read. The author of the text provides new information of this topic that I have never thought of. I never thought that the media can be such a big part in contributing into Mexican stereotypes. When I read what one newspaper can do for this race, it scared me because this is telling me that the media is a very powerful thing in life. I also found that there was immigration issues back in the great depression. I compared it to yesterday’s article about the Mexicans being driven out by cities. I’ve noticed that both articles talks about the struggles that Mexicans had before and now. Though both articles specifically talks about events that happened, yesterday’s article focused on a certain area in the United States. I don’t believe there should be anything that would make the United States less united but then again, this world isn’t perfect or even close to it.

  25. i was not really surprise by this cause people do disriminate alot against mexicans and they have been discriminated before any of us were born and it still goes on today. but its also not fair just stating "discrimination against mexicans" cause here in america there are other race/gender were they are also majorly discraminating against. i myself think the author is just over exgagirating and making it seem like mexicans are these bad people who do do horrible things and shouldnt be here but yet again she is pointing out important facts about the past that will show to proove we have been discriminated alot. and i know today that mexican americans do things to stop dicriminating against us but i dont think it will ever stop cause if its been going on for years i dont think it will stop any time soon.

  26. Before reading this article I already knew that Mexican Americans were discriminated against and hated by certain groups of people, but I didn’t realize how bad it actually was. When I read the part that said that 500,000 Mexican immigrants were deported during the great depression I was surprised because that was the first I had ever heard about that. What Mexican Americans faced was similar to what African Americans faced when they were segregated from schools and couldn’t work in certain positions because of who they were.

These stereotypes still exist and haven’t gone away, today you still hear about how lazy and how Mexican Americans are still discriminated against. Even in TV shows such as Family Guy they show how Peters father in law uses illegal immigrants as workers in his house and how he treats them almost as slaves paying them bearly anything and threatening to deport them.

  27. well what i think is that people in the United States are being unfair with mexicans.im not saying this just because im mexican, but because i knoe people that been hurt from all the discrimation that is happening in here.people dont think about the good side they just look at the bad side of the people, which i think its wrong because they just judge them without actually knowing them and start acusing them with false estaments. their are mexicans that actually are good people and try to make the right choices, but at the same time there are mexicans who do the wrong thing wich those are the things that people look at at and its sad, because is not only the mexican people who do bad things but all the races, and basically the society looks more at the mexicans just because they have a big precentage of imigrants. people should look forward to trying to do better things to help mexicans who want to improve in their lifes as well as other races that have the same problem.

  28. When reading this article some thing that were going through my head was that the author over exaggerated. For example, when the writer said “Mexican were actually forced to develop their own school to house the Mexican youth.” I personally never attended or seen a school in the United States that all students are Mexican American.” I find it wrong to portray Mexicans as disloyal foreigners even though 300,000 of them risked there lives to help the U.S. in the WW2. The view of many Americans have on Mexicans should be changed because Mexican Americans have done many things too help our country.

  29. My first reaction to this article was WOW! every race thats different has their own culture and how they do things. Their are many more races that have completely different beliefs than we do. We shouldnt discriminate against mexican americans or any color of any kind because its wrong. The article mentions that one of the main reasons they are discriminated against so harsh is because of their "illegal migration." I strongly believe that this is a horrible reason to be treated so bad. Mexican Americans get discriminated against for wanting to come to the U.S. and better their lives not only for themselves but for thier families. If i was in their shoes I would want to do anything in my power to make a better life for myself as well. There are plenty more individuals that have come from other foreign countries all over the world, we shouldnt discriminate agains any of them because of color, culture, and language. I also agree that this is a sad situation and it should be something that more people are aware of. Put yourself in their shoes, how would you feel?

  31. My first impression to the article was not a bright one. Reading this made me remember the discrimination that still exists in today’s present day society. It is disappointing when Mexican-Americans are considered “disloyal foreigners, murderers and Zoot suiters,” (3) because that is an ongoing stereotype that many people still go by. Other acts of discrimination are the defiance of health care and the massive deportation ranging to 500,000. To me this is all part of a biased way of thinking against Mexicans in order to make them feel inferior. With this in mind the way people think is not up to par since many Mexican-Americans have tried to pull away from these stereotypes in order to have a better living.

A connection to this the article, is the article we recently read where many acts of discrimination where taking place in the city of Illinois. Just like the current event article about the Muslim people being profiled as members of a crime because of their religion, many people are being stereotyped because of their Mexican-American race. To conclude, these articles are similar because they show which people are being targeted by the American race.

  32. This article came as no surprise to me. The only new information I learned was about the KKK lynching Mexican Americans. As a Mexican American myself, I have always tried to learn as much as I could about my heritage, so I can agree with the author. However, the author made it seem as if only Mexican Americans are discriminated against today(although they do make up a majority) when it is all illegal immigrants of all races who get discriminated. I can compare this article to slavery in that when slavery was finally eradicated freed slaves were treated in much the same way as Mexican Americans were(except the deportation). Because I am very biased myself on this subject, I will end this paragraph before I turn it into a rant.

  33. The first article that we read was biasd. Now this aricle is now is no better. All does is just focus on the past of the issues on Mexican Americans. I hink they should of talked more of what's going on now. In the article it said how the Mexican Americans were a burden to th United States and how the media had encouraged it and had even made I worst for them.
I honestly disagree because these Mexican Americans are just the same as everyone else; they're human and they deserve to be accepted. There really is no reason for the Americans to decided to just put the Mexican Americans
on the chopping block when they didn't do anythig wrong.

  34. As I read this article I was shocked. I didn’t imagine the discrimination against Mexicans was that big, it can be related to the discrimination against the African-Americans. They are similar in ways that they experienced almost the same situations. This article made me feel sad, I didn’t think that Mexicans were treated that bad. It is sad to know that there is still discrimination going on around the world. Unfortunately there is little we can do. This article speaks about the discrimination as a very harsh event. African Americans suffered maybe more than Mexicans did but we can still relate it to the same event.

  35. I think that this article embarrassed Americans for been so racist with Mexican Americans the same way that in the passed years was with the black race. In fact the authors state that the media had played a big role in promoting the negative Mexican stereo type. Additionally the author gives evidence of the contribution of Mexican-Americans to this nation. He states that many of them(Mexican American) served, and worked together with the US armed forces during World War 2. I believe that Mexican Americans have contributed to the United States’ economy before, right now, and definitely in the future, although Americans saw them as aliens.

  36. Honestly when i started reading this article I was like....Hmmm some people are just very mean you know? And then I read where the author is saying that one of the main reasons Mexican Americans have a bad reputation is because of their illegal migration to the United States. I would have to say that this statement is sort of true, but people have to understand why they came here illegally right?... I mean there were many reasons and poverty is a HUGE one!! I also got upset when the author explains how the media and the newspapers portrayed Mexican Americans as murderers and disloyal foreigners. Maybe some Mexican Americans have done things like that, but so have white poeple right??!! The way that Mexican Americans have been separated from society and portrayed in such a bad way is not a good thing. In a way I feel like the author is biased, but then again I can't really tell because his tone changes in and out. Well, I'm going to stop now lol, but this was a very interesting article.

  37. I had never heard of discrimanation against Mexican Americans we always talk about how black or African Americans were discriminated against in the past. However, the same thing was happening to my race and reading some of the stuff that was happening like that Mexicans had to have there own schools it was kind of shocking. I also agreed with the author when he said that media helps a lot with discrimination against Mexican Americans like the article said talking about illegal imigrants and calling all Mexicans stereotypes such as wetbacks this article really opened my eyes about the discrimination that my race faced and still faces.

  38. As I read this article, I was very surprised by the discrimination towards Mexican Americans. I have to admit that I really didn’t knew that it was THAT bad, but I still think that the author might have somewhat exaggerated. What I mean is that he makes it seem like every Mexican has to go through that dehumanizing treatment when I don’t think that’s true. It’s not everywhere, it depends on location. Although this does show connections to other articles I’ve read that tell of discrimination toward different ethnic groups, though I dislike this type of articles since they only focus on showing all of the injustices but they give us no solutions.

  39. As I read through this article it caught me by surprise like [WHOA!] that not only were African Americans were being discriminated, but as for my own race itself. I really don't agree what the author has stated in that discrimination is only shown by only Mexicans. But as far as I know it's been proved in other races in the world too.

In one of Mr.Robinson's articles discussed in whether illegal immigrants should be deported because of the law or illegal immigrants should stay and work because we make more than half the money in this country for them. My point of view for that is being treated as slaves,to make those higher than us have more dough in their pockets.Even though it's been the same since the 1800's their should be a change in discrimination towards all ethnicity once and for all in order to have better community's and better people.

  40. When I read this I wasn’t surprised that Mexican Americans were also discriminated on. In fact I think that anyone who wasn’t Caucasian was discriminated at some point in their history. I find it interesting that minorities haven’t singled out the people who have oppressed them. What if everyone who was ever oppressed by the Ku Klux Klan and their people were to strike back? Would they be the new lower race? As I read this article, I started seeing connections with the beginning of the holocaust. Although it wasn’t as extreme with concentration camps, people were still being singled out by society in newspapers and other media. People that were giving back to the United States by going into the World War II were not even given the right benefits or even medical insurance. This article made me see that our society has been racist for a long time and has discriminated on all most every race that has “overstepped their boundaries.” Times have changed and discrimination isn’t at bad as it once was in our country.

  41. This article does a good job explaining the hardships Mexican Americans Have to go through. People may think it was a little exaggerated but it isnt. It may seem like this man feels that its only mexicans but you cant automaticaly call him ignorant for that statement. you can compare this to racism towards African Americans. A black man may go through a lot of hardships in his life and feel its only bad for his race as well. So i believe this article gives a good description of some of the racial problems Mexicans go through and it gives a point of view from a mexican man.

  42. I think that this goes to show that Americans can be so ignorant. I can't believe the injustice in our supposedly "equal rights and opportunities" constitution. The way they treat Mexicans- no make that ANY minority group is really inappropriate. When the article stated that 500,000 Mexicans were deported back in the Great Depression made me think of our recession today and how they're trying to accomplish the same thing. I think that white people think they really ARE the master race. Like Hitler said. I don't know but I think that this has got to stop. This country was made up of nothing BUT immigrants. I mean, its 2009! Golly this pisses me off! D:<

  43. I think that there will always be racism in the world, whether because of race, religion, beliefs, or values. But to me its just something unimaginable that a state that prides itself on being a,"Free Coubtry"and a,"Land of Opportunities"can bo so ignorant as to judge someone not by what they can offer but by their race, religion, etc. When I read this article it made me angry because we dont offer people a fair opportunity we simple judge and condemm them. Like in the book Frederick Douglass, it demonstrates how they didn't think of african people as people but as property. How white people tought themselves supperior just because of their race. But juat as we overcame that era I think that if as a community we stand up for what we belive then sooner or later people will have to listen and they will have to make a change.

When people see an illegal immigrant they start making jokes, and say "go back to mexico you got tham wet backs." than if you make a white persons joke they would get all affended and try to fight you and everything.however mexicans or most mexicans would just leave it alone cause they arent residents in the united states.

Mexican-Americans have also been discriminated for a very long time. In my point of view, no one should ever be discriminated against. In United States society we have been threw a lot to still keep going on with all this negativity. We make ourselves seem superior then everyone else, but how can we keep our heads up so high if we can’t even treat our people with respect. Just like other articles we have read about threw out this year and the lasts, there have been many different ways that people have been disrespected. I think that if we all we all want equality and justice we should put up a fight. Not only because it’s what we want, but because it’s what we deserve. We all put into discriminating against each other; we should all put the effort into fixing this problem. If we can’t get rid of discrimination we should at least try to control it. The point is, something needs to be done, immediately.

  46. What I think about about this article is that I never imagined that racism would go that far. To a point in where students could not attend an American school. They had to build their own schools in where only Mexican Americans could attend. Kids are taken away to have the freedom of friendship, education, and their social skills. When I think about racism I think about people who discriminate against other races. But now I realize that is a serious situation that influences of those who come from a Mexican American culture and those who don’t as well. Mexican Americans are being stereotyped because of their different type of race, because they are thought to not belong in the U.S. They are seen in the eyes of ignorant people as “aliens.” They are isolated from the rest of the races in the U.S. that lead to depression in our society and even mass numbers of deportation. Till this day there is discrimination accruing in the U.S. towards many races.

  47. While reading this article i thought , REALLY ? Atleast in my community i dont really see this racism or discrimination happening. But ive heard stories about this, and i dont think its fair for mexicans or any other race to be discriminated because they are immigrants. Many people move or migrate from there native counrty because they are being oppressed by there goverment, all people want is a better life for themselves and family members. I think everyone should get the chance to be successful in this so called"free" country.

  48. My first impression of this article was that it was speaking the truth. In the past Mexican Americans were discriminated against frequently. But, as I got farther into the article, I noticed that the author was speaking about the discrimination of present day Mexican Americans. Though this race of people has been judged, I think the author took his point to an extreme. In my opinion you can not use past facts to support a present day view. That is like using slavery to speak out about the injustices blacks face today. To me, Mexican Americans are no more outsiders then any one from any ethnic group.

  49. well,yeah.. theres discrimination about everyone eveywhere? how bout we all get use to it. get use to real life. Its not only mexican americans EVERYONE have racism discrimination, deal with it? to everyone whos offended by my words... are probably the same people to get offended by racist comments made by people who probably don't care about you, so why care about them?People lie, when they say they don't think much of themselves. everyone knows that they think THEMSELVES there race there "kind" the best its just human instincts.

  50. This might sound quite uneducated but the author is “snaking” everyone although this article was based on Mexican Americans! Even though discrimination was dated and traced back in the days, it still sends a shocking feeling straight to the heart. How does excluding one race prove that all problems are caused by it? I felt a rage of hatred after reading this article because I know for a fact that if the African American race was being accused of the following issues, I would have felt discriminated also. One thing always leads to another; however, blaming the Mexican race has caused a huge factor in many peoples lives. Most individuals outside of the middle class range always seem to notice the cons of situations but never the pros. So what’s up with the jealousy? It honestly seems like it. I can not get a grasp of how others can come to the conclusion of disabling Mexican Americans from attending “American” schools. It just does not make any SENSE!

  51. Well after reading this article i was actually surprised that Mexican americans has been in the u.s. since the 18 hundreds. Meaning african amreicans weren't the only ones being discriminated against at those times. Some Stereotypes about mexicans written in this article are mostly false but some are true, some did come to the u.s. illegally but it doensn't give the americans a right to deport them because the diidnt come here to cause harm, but to find a better life and help their families out. Their are not murderers, thats the same way they see african americans thats why the population of them in prisons are higher than any race which isn't fair.
    This Article makes good points.

  52. Wow. In my opinion, I believe that Mexican-Americans are not a low-ethnic race. Although statistically it may be so, we are simply human beings. This topic reminds me of the treatment of Jews during World War 2. This author makes it seem like Mexican-Americans are a mistake and/or an outcast. I think that the problem here is not Mexican-Americans, but rather society. America is a teenager who needs to grow up and face the fact that we are never going to be a “great” nation if we keep denying the idea that we are all equal. Or at least be treated with similar rights. Mistreatment not only occurs to Mexican-Americans, it occurs to the entire world. Maybe the entire world should start realizing that we are all connected in one way or another.

  53. After reading this i couldn't take it anymore. I hate hearing and knowing that people still discriminate others for who they are. It also irritates me that not many or almost no one gets the point to history. To me,everything that happened in history happened for a reason.I think God was trying to warn us about things in the future or teach us a lesson throughout our past.I strongly dislike those who always notice or have something bad to say about someone or a specific group of people based on a trait.I also strongly dislike the fact that alot of people always notice something bad about someone rather than taking a look at their own stupid selfs. All the stereotypes and rumors and gossip are completely stupid and annoying. No one is the same. We are all individuals who should be treated equally. Those who are buttholes and discriminate against others should find something better to do with their lives rather than wasting their time making things worse, As if things here in the U.S aren't bad enough ALREADY! I honestly can't say i take pride in being an american for it is full of Fudged up people who have a hearing effect where one thing comes out the other having no REAL effect on their ignorant common sense. Why would i want to be a part of a place where ignorant people discriminate against eachother? This article related to the AP article we read in class. I am Mexican and hearing all these bad stereotypes on mexicans frustrates me. I am a human being, NOT a statistic.

  54. When i first read this article i thought to myself, what is this world becoming to? The first sentence of the article says it all "Mexican American have been the victim of discrimination throughout the history of the United States." As a mexican american i take being a "discrimination" very offensively, disrespectful, and totally unfair. I believe everyone should be treated equally no matter what race, religion, color etc. Sadly some people dont seem to understand that. This article also has connections to another article i read about mexican american discrimination in Illinois. One talks about how mexican americans are victims of having the highest percent of their race in prison, "over populating" the U.S.,deeds etc. The other article basicly points mexican americans out by giving their direct opinion on them. In general, they both speak on discrimintation on mexican americans.

While I do agree with the article in stating that some forms of racism existing in the United States is targetted towards Mexican Americans, I don't like the overall tone of the article. Yes, all ethnic groups have been opressed at one time or another in American history but this article retelling it is simply rekindling an old fire that should be put out. As for the actual issue itself, I do think it's wrong that Mexicans illegally cross the border but we're at fault also. In failing to cooperate with the Mexican government in an attempt to regulate immigration into the country, our government has put a burden on itself. For example, maybe some sort of program that allows immigrants to legally cross over and gives them job opportunities and education and eventually citizenship would put many more aliens in a safe and secure environment rather than being afraid of deportation.

  56. This article addresses a huge problem in society. It talks about the injustices towards Mexican-Americans. It explains the reason why Mexican-Americans are being discriminated upon. They are being discriminated, because the entire public has created a huge stereotype about them. Generations after generations continue to learn this stereotype about them. Throughout this school year, my class specializes in this subject, so it can be an understatement to know a few topics associated with this article. This is a huge problem, because we do not want the kids of the future being raised of a certain stereotype. Families across the nation are being taught to dislike a certain group. Sometimes, the situation goes too far and the family cause violence. The cycle needs to be stopped now for a better planet.

  57. This article is very detailed from 1848 to 1928. What occurred throughout that time was very unfair and cruel. Mexican Americans back then were treated as if they were animals.. I find it very unfair and two face of what the United Stated of America did back then. First wanting to have Mexicans as their number one enemy of keeping out of the country.. Then once WWII comes around they try and make the Mexican Americans their allies, not only that but when arriving back to the country for special medical attention/treatment the government turns their back on those who helped them... How fake was this country back then??
Just because some enter illegally to a country does not mean that they should be treated as if they were not human. Yes what they are doing is wrong but make them understand in a common human way, not by violence or force, unless it is really needed.

  58. When I first read this artical I was like "wow this is so not cool". The reason why is because the author made it seemed that Mexicans are such outcasts. I am aware that racism toward my race has been happening but, from the 1800s, THAT was shocking to know. I think that there should be solutions to these problems because it's been happening for such a long time and not just my race but, with others as well. The United States should be a place with opportunities and freedom instead, it's turning to the most rasist country on earth.

  59. This article was a shocker because most of the things it said was true.People are so against mexicans because they are one of the top ethinity's that can accomplish lots of things here in the U.S such as construction workers because most of them are hispanics.Without hispanics here in the society it wouldnt function as it does now.Even though many illegal immigrants get thrown out of this country.Mexican Americans are still making the United States a better place. This country gets more racist time by time because of others that recieve oppurtunities.

  60. Well considering the fact that the media should be used to inform not to just state a certain being of a race.Mexicans are just as important as other races in our society. Not only are we the people who are looking for a better life we actually start doing what we got to do and we do what is necessary to strive through life.We may not be as successful starting as other people but we get to a point of our life when we pull not only ourselves from poverty but we bring or whole family with us.I see no point in deporting Mexicans because they still come back not even considering the fact of other races being deported we are all coming to the U.S. to have a better life and this country is suppose to the golden life? How are we suppose to reach this amazing dream with us being sent back? Are we being mocked just shown the dream but we don't get a chance at living it?I think i proved my point

  61. I think that yes, the media has play an extremely huge role in the act of making Mexicans seem like "disloyal foreigners, murderers and Zoot suiters." But just because that is the way the media portrays them, is obviously not the realness of the race. I do also strongly agree with those who have said it seems as if the author is making it sound like such a bad thing to be Mexican. And it's people and articles such as this that will constantly keep thoes ideas about Mexicans around.

  62. “This is no way to treat our troops that are sacrificing their lives for the cost of our freedom. Racial profiling is reprehensible and should not be condoned,” said Paul A. Martinez, the group’s executive director. I agree with him because bottom line is, the troops are fighting for OUR freedoms, yet they still practice racial profiling? What kinda bleep is that? They're on the same team anyways, and so what if they had gang tattoos and you know, maybe there was some who were rivals before but there's a reason why they're not in gangs anymore. The army or whatever military branch's purpose is to change the way they used to be and become strong independent men/women. Yeah, I just can't believe racial profiling goes on in MILITARY. Unbelievable.

  63. Today the United States is overpopulated by Latinos, hispanics or Mexicans which are almost the same.Mexicans have been mistreated too. What really amazed me when reading this article is that the media has been part of this discrimination act. Thanks to the media young innocent males were killed in Los Angeles where Mexican population is huge.Mexicans are judged by their looks, language and culture.Mexicans contribute to this country just as any other race does, but whats sad is that the Mexican race is considered the most weak, powerless race. When people around the world make contributions, discoveries, they are everywhere in the media. The only thing you really hear in the media that has to do with a mexican,is always mostly a negative impact to the United States.

  64. Gosh, so many racism articles -__-
but yeah, for some reason Mexicans are always accused of doing something wrong, just because we have a lot of Mexicans in the U.S doesn't mean we have to discriminate against them, most Mexican came to have a better life and make more money. Just because their in gang affiliated doesn't mean all mexicans are bad. Isn't the U.S suppose to set a good example to other people? i guess not.

  65. I think it's wrong for Hispanics to be mistreated as a black sheep in the U.S. We are all people trying to live life and it's unfair to be discriminated for not doing anything wrong. For example, many minorities get pulled over for having a fancy car or house and is assumed that they have stolen the vehicle or house. Many kids grow up with the cycle of stereotype and assuming negative ideas about other races or even themselves.

  67. Its eye opening for me to see all these injustices and discrimination happen. I guess part of the reason why is because i have lived in a place that is very tolerant to diffrent races. I know there are up and downs, but i personaly have never experience discrimination to mexicans to that extent. Now a days you hear racist comments but they are usualy in a joke or as a form of just playin around, never with some meaning behind them. Now we see people who mean things and we see media support and i think that it is completely unfair.

  68. When I first began reading this blog I was under the impression that it was just going to be another random race claiming injustice, but I was very wrong. To my surprise the Mexiacan american heritage has been just as brutally disrespected as African Americans. Because I live in City Heights racism against mexicans is no somethin I see very often this article made me wonder what else I didn't know. The amount of discrimiation in America is absolutley ridiculous African AMERICAN, Mexican AMERICAN, Asian AMERICAN, at the end of the day were all the same AMERICAN why do we feed off of each others pain?

  69. In this article , i realize the amount of stupidity that anger and ignorance can create. In my own opinion, i personally believe that yes, immigration may be an issue but treating people as if they werent human is no proper way to go about it. We all have to except the fact that the majority of immigrants contribute to our nation and that w/o them, there will be not much being produced. In the current economy, you have to be better than the best to prevail and if you arent close to that, it's your own fault.

  70. This article shows ho anger and hate can lead to full-blown ignorance.Based on the first sentence of the article, I read that discrimination has been going on for a long time and it is not anything new. An example of this is in WW2, which is talked about in the third paragraph, the Mexican Americans were denied medical attention just because of their ethnicity. The United States builds laws and rules that in a way discriminates all the races.
For example when people see an illegal immigrants they start making jokes, like they will start screaming "La Migra" thinking that is funny when peoples lives out there have been ruined by the border patrol."During the 1940’s the print media played a big role in sparking the fire of hatred towards Mexicans. The imagery in the newspapers portrayed Mexicans as disloyal foreigners, murderers and Zoot suiters". This quote describes how even the news papers played a major role in discrimination issues. They use propoganda to place themselves higher that anyone else.
