As a result, we will be reading articles that address types of discrimination and oppression that various groups are experiencing in the United States. The link below leads to an article about oppression of Hispanic/Latino people in the United States.

Directions:
1. Click on the following link: http://newsbusters.org/node/17442/print
2. Copy the whole article and paste it into a word document (if possible)
3. Print the article
4. Read it tonight for homework and annotate
5. When annotating, ask questions about the meaning, relate ideas to the MAIN IDEA, underline/highlight key words and words you don't know, write in definitions of new words, and make connections to slavery.

  3. I Ca Not Believe! while I was reading this article it make me feel Sad. To see how much descrimination is against the Mexicans. It also make me feel up set because I am Mexican to.But the coments will not make me feel not proud to be a mexican. I am mexican and I feel proud it.while I was reading the article I ask my self a question why society almost always look the bad thing and not the good things?Mexican are descriminated just because they do not have papres.Even that they play a big role in today U.S.A society. One of the articles that I rember reading last year was three quartes of Mexican American which also talk about how the Mexicas were descriminated in New York.Another article that I just read yestearday is called Ap claims Discrimination Against Mexicans in Illions offers no proof which also talks about how badly the Mexicans are descriminated and the things they are suffering. There alot of articles that I have read realeted to the same theme.Which make me feel that I need to do something today to fight against the contemporary slavery in our society

  5. The contents in this article did not surprise me, while i have never experienced or seen discrimination to that extent i do belive the author. The Mexican culture is one of the last major cultures in America to Americanize. As new generations of Mexican Americans come out, i think that we can cut down on discrimination. I think what makes the Mexican culture diffrent from all the other cultures in America, is the ubundant number of undocumented residents. We often find it hard to use our rights and stand up for them when technically speaking we don't have American rights. Thus allowing our privaleges to be taken and discrimination to occur, we are too scared of the reprocusions. We place ourselves in akward situations, where yes we live here and we want the same rights, but we areselves are to scared to do anything about it. I think the launguage barrior is another huge thing that keeps us apart from society.

  6. It is kinda hard for me to really know if Ap really offers no claim. While they make some very strong points i cannot from just reading this single article say that injustices were or weren't occuring. However it would not surprise me if they were. The latino and the African cultures are always being discriminated against. From small things to larger scale discrimination. But we have to be extreamly carefull to what we call discrimination, if we throw the word around to often it looses its power. I agree with Jorge in sayin that Latinos are often too scared to do anything because of their legal status
